An insight in to the journey at CHRI for Relationship Based Training (RBT) program and Relationship Based Behavior Modification (RBBM)
The Monthly Classes are separate and full courses. Each month is a new or continuing topic of importance for working and living with dogs. As of September 2026 there have been more than 50 separate courses and discussions covering many topics. These courses are unlike any you will find elsewhere. These courses are presented within a monthly subscription.

This series of short courses is designed to provide an in-depth lecture on narrow subjects that are extremely important to comprehend and utilize. Each of the lectures is pre-recorded from the Monthly CHRI Classes series of courses. The courses are available, individually. There are more than 50 available.

This is an introductory course containing concepts that are essential to working with dogs. This information, exercises and concepts are not presented by anyone except CHRI. This is the recommended starting point for people wanting to learn a more complete perspective of their dog, their role in a Canine - Human Relationship, and information that will change your understanding, skill and knowledge levels. It is the beginning course to RBBM/RBT. This is the best opportunity for dog trainers, Vet Techs, owners, care takers, etc. that will help you understand more about dogs’ language, motivations, capabilities, and being able to better communicate your intent to them. Your dog will be used to help educate you during class exercises.

This three (3) day course focuses on the understanding of communication and detail provided through the proper use of a leash and long line. Working with a dog (your own, client, or a dog supplied by CHRI) is required. Leash equipment (6 foot and a 15-20 foot long line) must be provided by the dog owner/student. This is an opportunity to learn about the most basic of tools, how to use them effectively, details of handling and proper communications to and from your dog.

This 9 day in-person course provides the basic application of the concepts taught in RBBM I (RBBM Concepts). This course teaches students how to become an important partner to the dog. Through specific interactions, timing, exercises, mindsets, composure and consistency the students discover how to reach a dog. Each of your assigned dogs need some behavior modification. You learn to effectively partner with, train and reach the dog for a better outcome. You will be assigned a dog after evaluations of each potential dog. The following nine(9) days will consist of learning how to live and connect with that dog, 24/7. This seven (7) day course is the third in sequence for RBBM Relationship Based Trainer certification. This course will help you to understand how and when to apply the lessons you learned in RBBM Concepts and RBBM-Application to dogs of various behaviors. Our focus is to teach neurobiology of both humans and dogs, learning theory, and outcomes of comprehending how brains work best to accomplish learning. 80% of this course is class time learning, presentation, lecture and discussions. 20% is observances, experimentations and working with volunteer clients and their dog. There is an additional portion to this class via Zoom for 3 classes to guide you in how to REACH & TEACH your clients.

This course is a 3 day course that will teach you how to create, read and use multiple experiments with any dog. To teach, you must first understand your subject. The focus is on working with your dog, through multiple sessions, to learn better, faster and more effective communication methods to and from the dog. Without understanding what signals and feedback you are getting from the dog, your actions, behaviors, responses and requests are less, to ineffective in reaching/teaching your dog. The only tool we will use is a leash. Learning how to decode and reach a dog is the highest form of professionalism.

This 8 day + Course is designed to provide in-depth understanding of applying the RBBM/Relationship Based Training to “obedience training” (sit, down, stay, place, come, etc). However, the main focus is to understand the sequences of learning in order to get complex behaviors and actions from the dog. By partnering with the dog, understanding how to accurately communicate, in the way dogs understand, the student learns sequences, methods and applications of RBBM learning theories to train a dog. Days 1, 2, 7 and 8 are lecture and discussion class time. Days 3 - 6 are working with a dog. You can use either one that you bring to class or a dog can be provided for you.

This 8 day + Course is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of Relationship Based Training and Behavior Modification. The course is the culmination of studies, classes and practicum within RBBM/RBT methodology. Class time consists of multiple discussions, lectures, examples, observances and a segment of working with volunteer clients (handler/dog combination) to test, learn and prove knowledge, skill, comprehension and self-confidence. There is a segment of 3 days where a section of time will be teaching and working with a “client”. Successful completion of this course, and a minimum of 5 years of professional training experience allows a student to be Certified as a Professional Trainer of RBBM. The certification is a recognized level of attainment of skill, knowledge and capabilities. Certificants are recognized as Certified Relationship Based Trainers in RBBM (CRBT).
